If you read that tip, you also know the reason a smile reduces stress. When you smile, your brain immediately & automatically starts to create endorphins. You also know that your smile can affect the mood of others. Smiling is contagious!
Yet, did you also know that research shows your smile can predict the quality of your overall health, longevity, marriage, success and more? I didn't know that either until I heard a TED talk by Ron Gutman
about his research into the Untapped Power of a Smile. Here are a few other fun facts from his talk:
- One smile generates the same level of brain stimulation as up to 2,000 bars of chocolate ... Plus, smiling burns calories ; )
- Smiling improves health by reducing the stress inducing hormones cortisol, adrenaline & dopamine while increasing the mood enhancing hormone endorphin; and smiling reduces blood pressure.
- Smiling enhances how others see & respond to you. You appear to be more likable & courteous. And, are perceived to be more competent & confident when you smile.
Happiness is an inside job...
