Today’s Awareness Exercise

Two Days a Week Not to Worry

There are two days in every week about which we need not worry, two days to keep free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot change a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we need not worry about is Tomorrow with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance; Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day, Today.

Today is full of potential, discovery, choices, insights, experiences….

Today, this moment, is totally within our power to experience as fully as we choose in all it’s dimensions.

Living each moment as it presents itself, such as it is. This constitutes our life, these presents, moment to moment.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad, it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, Live one day at a time - This day - Right Now!

Benefit: Your stress will decrease and you will have more energy to focus on what is most important - Today.

Coaching Lesson

Stop ‘Shoulding’ on yourself!

Do you hear that little voice in your head chatting away all day long? Pay attention today to what it is saying to you. Try to catch the ‘Shoulds’ or ‘Should Nots’ in your head or in what you say out loud. “You should be…: You should have…; You shouldn’t want…”

Where did all these internal rules come from? Parents, teachers, peers, church, media… ~ Most of them came from a long time ago. In some cases another era or millennium.

The question is, “Are these rules appropriate or true for you in your current life?”

When you were a child, you certainly did not have the option to accept or reject a the rules presented to you. Today, you are becoming more conscious and aware of yourself and life. Today, it is time to re-evaluate the rules by which you judge yourself and others. Today, when you hear a ‘should’ ask, “Who made up this rule?” and “Is it true for me in this moment?”

When you hear the word “should” in your head or voice today, stop and ask, “Who made that up?” Write it down in your journal. As time goes on you may see a trend or theme.

As You free yourself from these ‘shoulds’, new vistas and possibilities open for your soul to grow! Vow to stop ‘Shoulding’ on yourself … and others!


The ‘Perfection Myth’ Giveaway!
